Easy to make and perfectly spiced, this applesauce cake boasts browned butter frosting that makes it completely irresistable!
Ingredients:
- 1/4 pound sweet/unsalted butter
- 2 c. sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 1/2 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
- 1/2 tsp. ground allspice
- 1/2 c. water
- 1 1/2 c. applesauce
- 1/2 c. chopped walnuts or pecans
- 1 c. dark raisins
- Confectioners’ sugar
Directions:
- Cream butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl.
- Add eggs, one at a time.
- Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves and allspice.
- Add dry ingredients alternately to butter mixture with the applesauce.
- Add water.
- Add nuts and raisins.
- Put into a greased Bundt® or tube pan.
- Bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees or until a tester inserted in center comes out clean.
- Cool in pan for 10 minutes.
- Unmold and let cool on a rack.
- Sprinkle with confectioners’ sugar before serving.
